A beautiful Tucson sunset was the subject of our first donor mural.  The Sabino Art students with art teacher Patrick Connell designed and constructed the mural.

2011 Sabino Hall of Fame Inductees
James Jerry Hardy graduated from Sabino in 2001
and is celebrating his 10 year anniversary as a High
School All American.  He was a member of the
1999, 2000, and 2001 Arizona AIA All State Teams.
 He was a second round draft pick in 2001 for the
Milwaukee Brewers.  In 2003 he was a member of
the Major League Baseball Futures Team.   He has
been a member of the Minnesota Twins and is
currently playing for the Baltimore Orioles
Willie Wood is a 1979 graduate of Sabino.  Willie
won the 1977 US Junior Amateur champion, was
Boys Champion at the 1978 PGA Junior PGA
Championship, 1979 Western Junior Champion, he
was Arizona’s high school individual state champion
in 1978 and 1979.  In 1983 he played on the Walker
Cup team and later that year joined the PGA tour by
being medalist in the PGA Tour qualifying
tournament.
Bruce Johnson was one of the original faculty
members at Sabino in 1972.  He has been the chair
of the Science and Counseling Departments.  He
has worked as Athletic Director, Coach and Assistant
Wrestling Coach.  He continues to be a substitute
teacher at Sabino and work at Football games.  
Bruce is truly the embodiment of a dedicated and
loyal member of the Sabino High School
Community!
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of their
accomplishment, we are recognizing the 1986 Boys
Golf Team.  This team, coached by Art Learing, is
the state AAA golf champions.  They won this title
by 14 strokes.  This team held school and state
records for the most consecutive matches won and
were part of three consecutive winning seasons!
John Daniel Hicks graduated from Sabino in 1979.  
Using his journalism degree from the University of
Arizona, Dan is a long time national sportscaster for
NBC.  He does play by play commentary for golf, the
NBA, Notre Dame Football and the NFL.  He is also
the lead announcer for NBC Sports’ Olympic
Coverage.   His Olympic announcing includes
swimming, Closing Ceremonies, speed skating and
late night anchor.
This team is the first state championship for Sabino.  
Coached by Cliff Jewsbury, this team was
undefeated going in to the state tournament.  The
state title was clinched when Bruce Lyle won the
AIA Class 5A Single Championship with a 6-1, 6 -1
victory.
